Château Peyrat-Fourthon

The estate

Peyrat-Fourthon joins 2 old names of Saint-Laurent-Médoc: the 18th-century hunting lodge of the Domaine Fourthon and the vineyards of the original Château Peyrat, whose vines have grown here since 1750, on a site shown on the Cassini map. The trade books kept the halves apart. Charles Cocks and Édouard Féret, whose Bordeaux et ses vins was the reference book of the Bordeaux trade, list Au Peyrat, under the Mothes family, among the crus artisans from 1868, and by 1922 the Château du Peyrat is a cru bourgeois of 42 hectares, 13 of them vines, held by the Mothes since 1834. Fourthon, under Meynard, moves from the artisans to the crus bourgeois in 1898 as Haut-Fourthon. Château Peyrat was a Cru Bourgeois in the list of 1932.

The Narboni family has owned the estate since 2004, and since 2010 Pierre Narboni has led a plan to raise the vineyard, with the soil worked. The vineyard is 23 hectares, certified Haute Valeur Environnementale (High Environmental Value, the French state’s environmental certification for farms) at level 3. The first wine is more than 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot and is aged wholly in new barrels, about 40,000 bottles depending on the vintage. The second wine, La Demoiselle d’Haut-Peyrat, about 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, is aged 50% in new barrels and 50% in vat, about 50,000 bottles, and L’Extrait d’Haut-Peyrat, a micro-cuvée of 2,000 bottles, spends 24 to 36 months in new oak. The estate was a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur in the classifications of 2020 and 2025, and the lodge is now a guest house of 10 rooms, 2 suites and a loft.
