Château Larose-Trintaudon

The estate

In 1838 Henry Delaroze, owner of Gruaud Larose and Larose Perganson and mayor of Saint-Laurent-du-Médoc, planted 15.95 hectares of vines on the land of Trintaudon and sold the wine as Larose-Trintaudon. Count Ernest de Lahens, the owner from 1858, extended the estate to some 345 hectares by 1872 and in 1884 built the château with its tower. Then came the ruin. Phylloxera and mildew destroyed the vines between 1900 and 1905, and in 1923 Count Tchernoff, a Russian émigré, pulled most of them up to make an industrial dairy farm; a Spanish owner, Jaime de Artega Falguerra, followed in the 1930s. The vineyard came back only in 1963, when the Forner family, owners of Château Camensac, bought the estate and replanted it.

In 1986 the Allianz group, then AGF, bought it, and its wine company, Vignobles de Larose, has since grown around it, adding Château Arnauld in 2007 and Château Tour de Pez in 2019. Lorraine Watrin is chief executive and Jérôme Puntous runs the vineyards. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon always lead the blend, with light touches of Petit Verdot, and the second wine, Les Hauts de Trintaudon, comes from the same vines, the same ground and the same harvest. Larose-Trintaudon was a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur in the classification of 2020 and is not in that of 2025.
