The estate

Pey Mallet is a family estate on the smallest scale: about 2 hectares in the northeast of Avensan, at the crossroads of Margaux and Moulis, owned by Michelle Albouy. The ground is deep Pyrenean gravel, pebbly, lean and quick to drain, and the vines, 30 years old on average, are planted 50% Merlot, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Petit Verdot. The soil is plowed, weeded by harrow and fed with organic matter. The grapes are picked by hand, sorted in the vines and left 3 weeks on their skins, and the wine ages 14 months in barrel: about 12,000 bottles a year, some of them in magnum and double magnum. Pey Mallet is a Cru Artisan du Médoc in the classification for 2022 to 2026.
