Château Garance Haut Grenat

The estate

Garance Haut Grenat is 5 hectares of gravel at Bégadan, with vines that look down on the Gironde. From the 2020 harvest the family of Château Le Bernet, a Médoc estate of 12 hectares now run by its 5th generation, took it into their work, and in 2021 Gildas Doret became its operator. The vineyard is 55% Merlot and 45% Cabernet, certified Haute Valeur Environnementale (High Environmental Value, the French state’s environmental certification for farms) at level 3. It is picked partly by machine and partly by hand and fermented in stainless steel, with 3 weeks on the skins at about 22 to 28 °C, and the wines of both estates age 12 to 18 months in new oak barrels without racking. A lighter cuvée, La Rivière, completes the range, and the estate lets a guest house. It is a Cru Artisan du Médoc in the classification for the vintages 2022 to 2026.
