Château Haut Condissas

The estate

Jean Guyon, the son of an antique dealer, came to wine in 1989 with the 2 hectares of Château Rollan de By at Bégadan. Haut Condissas followed in 1995, on 3 hectares of vines in the same commune, and has grown to 15 hectares of parcels chosen over time for their character and exposure. It is the flagship of the house, and Guyon directs it himself. Around it he built a group: Tour Seran in 2000, La Clare in 2001, La Rose de By in 2011 and, in 2012, Greysac, de By and du Monthil, for 185 hectares in all.

The vineyard is 60% Merlot, 20% Petit Verdot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc, on a hilltop of clay and gravel. In 2017 the vines were 50 years old on average, planted at 10,000 a hectare. They are picked by hand and fermented plot by plot in barrels or small temperature-controlled vats, with the malolactic fermentation in new oak; the 2020 and the 2023 were stirred on their lees for 3 months and aged 18 months in new French oak barrels.
