Château Clément Saint Jean

The estate

Clément Saint Jean belongs to the cooperative world of the Médoc. Les Vignerons d’Uni-Médoc, based at Gaillan-en-Médoc and at work since 1934, brings together 100 families of growers and 740 hectares of vines on gravel, clay and limestone and sandy gravel; it makes its wines in 2 cellars, at Bégadan and at Prignac-Médoc, and ages them in barrel in its cellar at Gaillan-en-Médoc. In 1996 its growers began buying carefully chosen parcels for an estate of their own, and after 10 years of work in the vineyard the result was Château Clément Saint Jean. Laurent Vaché, the cooperative’s oenologist and director, is in charge.

The 25 hectares lie on clay and limestone and on sandy gravel, planted 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon at 5,000 to 7,000 vines a hectare, with vines 25 years old on average. The grapes are picked by machine, the winemaking is traditional, and the wine spends 12 months in barrels, 30% of them new; about 127,860 bottles. It is a Cru Bourgeois in the classifications of 2020 and 2025.
