Château La Roque de By

The estate

La Roque de By is a property of the 18th century at Bégadan, 80 kilometers north of Bordeaux, close to Château La Tour de By and to the estuary, and it is run from La Tour de By by the family of Marc Pagès. His grandson, Frédéric Le Clerc, remembers walking these vines with him and watching the ships pass on the Gironde, 200 meters away.

The 10 hectares, on parcels mostly of gravel and of clay and limestone, are planted 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot at 6,600 vines a hectare, 35 years old on average. Each parcel is fermented apart in temperature-controlled stainless steel, and the wine spends 18 months in barrel and vat; about 50,000 bottles a year. La Roque de By is a Cru Bourgeois in the classification of 2025.
