Château Capdet

The estate

Capdet lies on the heights of Listrac-Médoc, at the place called Puy de Menjon, and it has belonged to the Raymond family for more than 100 years. The books bear that out. Charles Cocks and Édouard Féret, whose Bordeaux et ses vins was the reference book of the Bordeaux trade, first listed the Domaine de Capdet, cru du Puy-de-Menjon, in 1922, under A. Lagune and Ed. Raymond, among the crus bourgeois et 1ers artisans, with 5 hectares of vines, partly on the gravel rise of the Puy-de-Menjon and of Fonréaud and partly on the clay and limestone of the village of Listrac.

Jean-Marie Raymond, born in the village, works the vines today, and the wine is sold through the Vignerons Associés, the cooperative of Listrac. It has carried the words Cru Bourgeois on its label since the 2008 vintage, the work of Jean-Marie Raymond, of Didier Lalande, cellar master of the cooperative, and of its oenologist, Éric Boissenot; it is a Cru Bourgeois in the classifications of 2020 and 2025.

The vineyard now covers nearly 14 hectares, planted at 7,000 vines a hectare. Part of the crop is still picked by hand each year, when parents, children and grandchildren gather for a weekend of harvest. The wine spends 12 months in oak barrels, and nearly 40,000 bottles are made a year.
