Cookies
This site names every cookie it sets. Two are necessary and are always there; the rest exist only if you asked for them.
br_lang
Necessary. Records whether you read the English or the Portuguese edition, so you are not sent to the other one next time. It lasts 1 year.
br_reserve
Necessary. Set only if you accept a Cru Classé invitation. It carries the code that opens the members' pages. It lasts 1 year, and a companion cookie lets those pages see that you are a member.
br_consent
Necessary. Records the answer you gave the banner, so you are not asked again on every page. It lasts 6 months, and then we ask you once more.
_ga and _ga_ followed by a code
Measurement, and only if you accept. These are Google Analytics. The first tells one browser from another, the second keeps the state of your visit. Google sets them for 2 years. They let us count readers and see which pages are read; they carry no name, no email address and no payment detail, because we never send Google any of those.
If you decline, neither cookie is set and Google's script is never loaded, so Google learns nothing of your visit. Accepting allows measurement and nothing else: no advertising storage is ever switched on, whichever way you answer.
What is not here
No advertising cookie of ours, no cookie belonging to anyone but us and Google, no tracking pixel and no fingerprinting. Fonts are served from this site, so loading a page tells nobody else you were here. Your study progress sits in local storage, not in a cookie, and never leaves your browser. We do not sell anything about you and we buy nothing about you.
Your answer, and how to change it
Consent is required for the measurement cookies and for nothing else, so the banner asks once and remembers the answer for 6 months. Refusing is one button, in the same place and the same size as accepting, and nothing is set until you accept. You can change your mind here at any time, and clearing the site data in your browser removes every cookie above along with your study progress.
