Château Liouner

A small family Listrac-Médoc whose name is a riddle: the Bosq family bought the cru Renouil in the 1920s and turned its name into an anagram.

The estate

In the early 20th century there was a cru called Renouil at Listrac-Médoc. The Bosq family bought it in the 1920s and gave it a new name made of the same letters, Liouner, and the family has run it ever since, now across 5 generations, with M. Bosq in charge. The vines stand on a gravelly rise of Listrac, on clay and limestone, sand and gravel.

It is a small estate: 7 hectares, harvested by machine, with the wine raised 12 months in barrel. The Château Liouner 2023 is 60% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. The family also makes Les Diablotins, a red and a white, the white a Sauvignon Blanc fermented cold in barrel, and L’aile de Liouner. Liouner is a Cru Bourgeois in the classifications of 2020 and 2025.
