Château Rollin

The estate

Rollin has been making wine at Saint-Sauveur since the 19th century. Charles Cocks and Édouard Féret, whose Bordeaux et ses vins was the reference book of the Bordeaux trade, first listed a cru Rollin at Lescarjean in 1893, under a grower named Denis, among the crus artisans and paysans, at 18 tonneaux (the old Bordeaux measure of a crop, 900 liters, or 4 barrels). The Hostein cru next door was joined to it by 1901, bringing it to 30, and in 1922, still under Denis, it made 40.

The Martin family has held it for several generations, and in 2002 the property passed to the 4 children, as a groupement foncier agricole. For years the grapes went to a cooperative cellar; in 2007 the family took the winemaking and the selling back into its own hands. It is a Cru Bourgeois in the classifications of 2020 and 2025.

The 16 hectares lie grouped around the cellar, none of them more than 1.5 kilometers away, on a rise of gravel with soils of silt and gravel. They are planted 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, with vines 40 years old on average, and farmed under AREA certification and agriculture raisonnée. Rollin makes red wine only.
