Château du Hâ

The estate

The estate was created around 1900, when it was called Château Beausite and covered 50 hectares, mostly hybrid vines and forest; it declined after the First World War. From 1950 to 1974 it belonged to M. Duhil, from Brittany, who sold 30 hectares of woodland and turned the remaining 20 into pasture for cattle. In 1997 Cédric and Isabelle Moreau settled on the nearly abandoned property as young farmers: 6 hectares of meadow inside the Haut-Médoc vineyard register, 12 of grassland, 2 of oak wood and some 400 square meters of buildings. They planted the 6 hectares of vines within 6 years and set up a stud for show jumping horses; stables followed in 2003 and a guest house in 2009.

The vines are at Saint-Sauveur, between the ocean and the estuary. After years under Haute Valeur Environnementale (High Environmental Value, the French state’s environmental certification for farms), the 2021 was the first vintage certified organic. The wines are raised in barrel, and there are 3: Château du Hâ, Equus du Hâ and Hâ Typique. Château du Hâ is a Cru Artisan du Médoc in the classification for the vintages 2022 to 2026.
