Château Magnol

The estate

Magnol was built at the start of the 18th century, and in 1776 it was bought by Charles Jean-Baptiste Mercier Dupaty, president of the Parliament of Bordeaux. Its modern life belongs to Barton & Guestier, the Bordeaux merchant house founded in 1725, which bought the château in 1969 and its vineyards 10 years later, in 1979. Richard Nixon visited in 1981, and in 1989 the house opened its wine school here, the Food & Wine Academy, with 12 guest rooms in the château.

The vineyard is 31 hectares of sand and gravel at Blanquefort. The 2020 is 49% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot, fermented warm with a long maceration of 3 weeks and aged 12 months in barrel, 30% new. A Cru Bourgeois in 2020, Magnol was raised to Cru Bourgeois Supérieur in the classification of 2025.
