Château La Fortune

The estate

La Fortune is small by any Margaux measure: 3.9 hectares close to the road of the châteaux, on fine gravel full of pebbles over a subsoil of clay and gravel and of clay and limestone. It is planted 74% Merlot and 26% Cabernet Sauvignon, and farmed by agriculture raisonnée.

An old building was turned into its working cellar, with an air-conditioned vat room of small temperature-controlled vats, so each parcel can be made on its own, and a separate cellar for aging; the wine spends 14 to 18 months in barrel. The Société Fermière des Grands Crus de France, part of the Grands Chais de France group, runs it, as it runs Château du Cartillon at Lamarque. La Fortune was a Cru Bourgeois in the classification of 2020 and moved up to Cru Bourgeois Supérieur in 2025.
