Château Mongravey

The estate

Mongravey was put together 1 parcel at a time. Régis Bernaleau inherited 2 hectares of vines at Arsac in 1981 and bought parcel after parcel in the commune until the vineyard reached 12 hectares in 9 parcels; he runs it now with Jérôme and Karin Bernaleau. The parcels sit on Quaternary gravel rises rich in quartz pebbles, which drain the soil and give back the heat, and they are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with vines of 20 to 60 years.

The estate has held Haute Valeur Environnementale (High Environmental Value, the French state’s environmental certification for farms) since 2017, the rows have been weeded mechanically for more than 15 years, and no product classed as carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic to reproduction is used. The family’s Vignobles Bernaleau also make Château de Braude and Château Galland. In February 2025 the classification made Mongravey a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel, 1 of 14.
