Château Marojallia

The estate

Marojallia was Philippe Porcheron’s estate, and his Groupe Porcheron restored the château and built its cellar. It came into the world at the end of the 1990s with help from the Right Bank: Jean-Luc Thunevin of Château Valandraud and his team vinified the 1999, with Japanese interns lending a hand, and Michel Rolland guided the wine in its early years. The idea was Margaux made in small lots, in an almost garage style, in a commune known for delicacy and perfume. It was never classified, and it was not in the Cru Bourgeois lists of 2020 or 2025.

I tasted the 2008 in December 2025, and it showed what the approach could do. The vintage gave fresh, classically shaped Cabernet, and Marojallia wrapped that structure in ripe fruit and polished tannins, a wine somewhere between Margaux charm and modern richness: an outsider bending Margaux a little in its own direction without losing hold of what Margaux is.

The château and its vines have since been bought by Château Marquis de Terme, a 4th growth of Margaux, whose 2023 is the first to include them. The name did not go with the land: Philippe Porcheron kept it through a company of its own, SAS Marojallia, which still sells the wine.
