The estate

The Boueys have been in the Médoc since 1821, when Nicolas Bouey bought his first vines there. Their merchant house, Maison Bouey, was founded in 1958, and Patrick and Jacques Bouey are its only shareholders. When the family bought this estate it renamed it Château La France Delhomme, in honor of an ancestor. It is 1 of their 6 family estates: 10 hectares of vines, 8.5 on the limestone plateau of Blaignan and 1.5 on a limestone rise at Ordonnac, with an 18th-century dovecote tower listed as a historic monument.

Merlot makes up 90% of the vineyard, and the vines are 30 years old on average, with 1 parcel planted in 1926. The farming is reasoned, with the soil worked between and under the rows; the wine is made parcel by parcel, with a long maceration, and aged 12 months in oak, 1 third of the barrels new, 1 third after 1 wine and 1 third after 2. Stéphane Derenoncourt consulted on the 2017 vintage. La France Delhomme was a Cru Bourgeois in the classification of 2020 and a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur in 2025.
