Château Rollan de By

The estate

Jean Guyon, born in 1949, the son of an antique dealer and a lover of art, bought Château Rollan de By in 1989, with 2 hectares of vines at Bégadan. Then he kept buying: Château Haut Condissas in 1995, Château Tour Seran in 2000, Château La Clare in 2001, Château La Rose de By in 2011, and in 2012 Château Greysac, Château de By and Château du Monthil, which brought his Domaines Rollan de By to 185 hectares.

Rollan de By itself has grown to 87 hectares of clay gravel in the north of the Médoc, planted 70% Merlot and 10% each of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It is certified Haute Valeur Environnementale (High Environmental Value, the French state’s environmental certification for farms) and follows the Natura 2000 charter. The top wine of the house is not Rollan de By but Château Haut Condissas: 15 hectares of chosen plots, begun with 3 in 1995, planted 60% Merlot, 20% Petit Verdot and 10% each of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
