Château les Tuileries

The estate

Les Tuileries is a grower’s story, told in generations. Armand Gaspard, a cooper who also grew vines, worked the land until 1928; Robert Dartiguenave, another cooper, from 1919 to 1958; Gilbert Dartiguenave from 1940 to 1988; and Jean-Luc Dartiguenave since 1988. The frosts of 1956 forced a replanting, and each generation since has added vines, up to 28 hectares in 4 parcels of clay and limestone over rock, 5 to 10 meters above sea level. The family has been an independent grower since 1983 and a Cru Bourgeois since 1986, and was ranked Cru Bourgeois Supérieur in the classifications of 2020 and 2025.

The vineyard is 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, planted at 5,000 vines a hectare and certified Haute Valeur Environnementale (High Environmental Value, the French state’s environmental certification for farms). The grapes are picked by machine and destemmed in the vineyard, sorted on a vibrating table and given a cold soak of 5 to 6 days before fermentation. Château les Tuileries spends 12 months in barrel, 2 thirds new and 1 third after 1 wine, about 80,000 bottles a year. Above it stand 2 cuvées aged 24 months in new oak: the Prestige des Tuileries, 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet, and L’Intégrale des Tuileries, 1 third each of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. The family also makes Château Terre Blanche, a Médoc, a Petit Verdot, a rosé and a white.
