The estate
Ramage La Batisse is an assembly of old names. Around an 18th-century manor at Saint-Sauveur, near Pauillac, it brings together parcels of the domains of Ramage, La Bâtisse and Tourteran. Charles Cocks and Édouard Féret, whose Bordeaux et ses vins was the reference book of the Bordeaux trade, rated La Bâtisse a cru bourgeois supérieur in their editions of 1874 to 1893; in 1898 they listed a cru Ramage-la-Batisse under Jean Bosc among the modest crus artisans and paysans of the commune, at 40 tonneaux (the old Bordeaux measure of a crop, 900 liters, or 4 barrels), and by 1922 it had climbed into the crus bourgeois.
Today it belongs to the mutual insurer MACIF, which also owns Château de Belcier, and its wines are sold through the Bordeaux merchant Gironde et Gascogne, under the name Top Wines. The 34 hectares in production are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with a touch of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, about 40 years old on average, and hold Haute Valeur Environnementale (High Environmental Value, the French state’s environmental certification for farms). The wine is made in the traditional way and aged in barrel, and Château Tourteran comes from the same land. It is a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur in the classifications of 2020 and 2025.
