Château La Fleur Lauga

The estate

Until the 2014 vintage this was Château Capdet, named for the family that owned it. Charles Brun of Château de Lauga took it over through his company, the EARL C. Brun, for the 2015 harvest, with a group of investors behind him, and renamed it La Fleur Lauga. What he took on is small and very well placed: 1 hectare of gravel at Beychevelle, surrounded by parcels of the classified growths of Saint-Julien, planted 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot, with vines 50 years old on average.

The grapes are picked by hand, the wine is made with punching down in the Lauga cellar and aged 18 months in French oak barrels, and there are about 4,800 bottles a year. The youngest vines, planted after the takeover, go into a second wine, Petite Fleur du Château La Fleur Lauga, 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot. La Fleur Lauga is a Cru Artisan du Médoc in the classification for the vintages 2022 to 2026.
