Château Teynac

The estate

Fabienne and Philippe Pairault bought Teynac in 1990, together with Château Corconnac in the Haut-Médoc, and added Château Les Ormes, 1.5 hectares of Saint-Julien, in 1995; their daughter Éléonore now works with them. In 4 waves of buying, parcels of Saint-Julien classified growths among them, the vineyard has grown from 4.5 to 12.5 hectares, on gravel and clay on the plateau of Beychevelle, with vines 40 years old on average. Éric Boissenot is the consulting oenologist.

The blend is mainly Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot and Petit Verdot in proportions that move a little with the vintage. The estate has followed an environmental management system since 2015, within a Bordeaux wine association certified ISO 14001, and has held Haute Valeur Environnementale (High Environmental Value, the French state’s environmental certification for farms) from the 2016 vintage. The second wine, Eléonore du Château Teynac, sees a lighter touch of barrel, and the renovated chai opens onto a tasting room of wood and steel.
