A Saint-Émilion from the Haut Gravet, planted almost as much to Cabernet Franc as to Merlot, raised entirely in vat and sold by the appellation’s cooperative.

The estate
Mazouet lies in the Haut Gravet area of Saint-Émilion, on clay and limestone with sand at the surface, and it is planted 45% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, with vines of about 40 years. The grapes are picked by machine and the wine never sees a barrel: the 2020, picked on September 14, 2020, spent 12 to 14 months in vat. It carries the Saint-Émilion appellation, not the Grand Cru; there are about 20,000 bottles a year, sold by the Union de Producteurs de Saint-Émilion, the appellation’s cooperative, in its Artevino range. The 2019, which I tasted in January 2025, was drinking well, with youthful, rich fruit and savory notes.
