A Grand Cru Classé that Cheval Blanc bought in 2006 and dissolved into its own vineyard, and the ground on which Cheval Blanc learned to make a white wine.

The estate
La Tour du Pin came out of the breaking up of Figeac. In 1881 half of the land that had just become Château La Tour Figeac was split off as Château La Tour du Pin Figeac, a name later carried by 2 separate estates, 1 of the Moueix family and 1 of the Giraud, later Giraud-Bélivier, family. This was the Moueix estate. It was a Grand Cru Classé in every list from 1955 to 2006: as La Tour du Pin Figeac (Moueix) in 1955, 1969, 1986 and 1996, and as Château La Tour du Pin in 2006.
Château Cheval Blanc bought it in 2006: about 8 hectares of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, whose vines were taken into the Cheval Blanc estate and entirely restructured. In 2012 part of its vineyard was added to Cheval Blanc’s own, and it is absent from the lists of 2012 and 2022. What it left behind is a white wine. From 2008 Cheval Blanc grafted Sauvignon Blanc here to learn whether the ground could grow grapes for white, then found Sémillon in an existing vineyard, and in September 2016 it presented Le Petit Cheval Blanc 2014. A nature sanctuary was set up on the site soon after the purchase.

The record
Château La Tour du Pin was a Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion until the classification of 2006; its vines are now part of Château Cheval Blanc.
Saint-Émilion Grand Cru is an appellation, not a rank. A wine may carry it and hold no place at all in the Saint-Émilion classification.
