Château Grand-Pontet

The estate

Grand-Pontet stood a few meters from the village of Saint-Émilion, and for more than 50 years its rank never changed: it was a Grand Cru Classé in the classifications of 1955, 1969, 1986, 1996, 2006 and 2012. Its end as a wine of its own came on September 27, 2021, when Domaine Clarence Dillon announced that Château Quintus, its Saint-Émilion estate, was buying it. The vines lay 1 kilometer north of Quintus’s existing parcels, and Prince Robert of Luxembourg, chairman and chief executive of the group, wanted a larger and more diverse palette for the oenologists.

Grand-Pontet was the 3rd property to make up Quintus: the estate had taken in its neighbor L’Arrosée in 2013, and with Grand-Pontet it came to 45 hectares, 42 of them planted. Grand-Pontet was not in the classification of September 2022; its vines now go into Château Quintus.
