The estate

Le Moulin sits on the edge of the Barbanne, and locally it goes by the name of the old mill, the Moulin de Lavaud. Michel Querre and his wife Geneviève bought the mill in 1969. The wine came much later: in 1997, helped and encouraged by their son Emmanuel, Michel Querre bought the vineyard of Vieux Château Cloquet, 2.5 hectares, and the mill became a wine estate.

The grand vin (the estate’s first wine) comes from 2 hectares of clay and gravel planted 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, 30 years old on average. It ferments in conical steel vats of 30 hectoliters, with the cap punched down by hand, and goes through its malolactic and its aging in new barrels, 10,000 bottles in an average year. The other 0.5 hectare gives the second wine, Basileus, from the same grapes and aged 1 year in barrel, 4,000 bottles. The family also makes a Bordeaux Supérieur of pure Merlot from 1 hectare, and a sparkling rosé.
