Château La Rose Figeac

The estate

La Rose Figeac was put together by a neighbor. In 1961 Louis Rapin, the owner of Château La Tour Figeac in Saint-Émilion, bought the growth next to him on the Pomerol side of the line, gathered other plots around it and renamed the whole Château La Rose Figeac. The Rapin-Despagne family has been in Saint-Émilion for 2 centuries, and after a succession within it his granddaughter Nathalie Despagne inherited the estate and took over its direction in August 2013. Since then the vineyard has been restructured and a new building put up, with a modern vat room, a barrel cellar, a storage cellar and a tasting cellar.

The 4.56 hectares lie in the south-east of the appellation, in 9 plots less than 500 meters apart, on sandy gravel, planted 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, 30 years old on average, and farmed organically, certified by Ecocert since 2009. The grapes are picked by hand and fermented plot by plot in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, on the advice of the oenologist Mikael Laizet, of Michel Rolland’s laboratory; the wine ages about 16 months in French oak barrels in the old stone cellar and is bottled at the château. The 2019 is 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, aged in barrels 50% new, 25% of 1 vintage and 25% of 2. The second wine is Les Sables de La Rose Figeac.
