Château Lafleur-Gazin

The estate

Lafleur-Gazin lies on the northern edge of the Pomerol plateau, between Château Gazin and Château La Fleur-Pétrus, on gravel, clay and silt. For decades it was an arrangement rather than a possession: the Borderie family owned the vines, and Ets. Jean-Pierre Moueix made the wine from 1976. In 2021 the Moueix family bought the estate outright, and it now stands among the family’s vineyards with Trotanoy, La Fleur-Pétrus, Hosanna, Latour à Pomerol, La Grave and Lagrange.

The 8.5 hectares carry vines 30 years old on average, and the soils are tilled. The grapes are picked by hand, sorted by hand and then by optical sorter, and fermented with a gentle extraction in temperature-controlled concrete and steel vats; the wine ages 16 to 18 months in French oak, 30% to 40% of it new. The house makes it in the lighter style of the appellation, a Pomerol to enjoy young.
