Château La Violette

The estate

La Violette stands on the heights of the Pomerol plateau, between Trotanoy and Le Pin, on clay and gravel with iron deposits, and it takes its name from the scent of violets. It has a place in the old books. Édouard Féret, in Les vins de l’arrondissement de Libourne of 1897, listed the cru La Violette among the second growths of Pomerol under Ulysse Bélivier, at 15 tonneaux (the old Bordeaux measure of a crop, 900 liters, or 4 barrels); his Saint-Émilion et ses vins of 1908 placed it among the intermediate growths between the first and the second, and in 1922 the guide of Cocks and Féret had it under Albert Jodeau. In our time it belongs to Vignobles Péré-Vergé: Catherine Péré-Vergé, who also owned Le Gay and Montviel, set its course, and Henri Parent carries on her objectives. Michel Rolland was its oenologist until his death in March 2026.

The vineyard is 1.8 hectares of Merlot alone, from vines planted before 1956, with replacements. Everything happens in barrel. The grapes are picked in 2 or 3 passes as they ripen, destemmed by hand and put uncrushed into new French oak barrels, where both fermentations run; the wine then ages there 12 to 18 months. The yield is 20 hectoliters a hectare, which gives about 4,800 bottles, and there is no second wine.
