Château La Fleur de Gay

The estate

La Fleur de Gay belongs to the Raynaud-Lebreton family, the owners of Château La Croix de Gay, who trace their ties to the high terrace of Pomerol to a grant of 1477. The vineyard was created in 1982, in the time of Noël Raynaud, who had made his first wine at La Croix de Gay in 1947. When he died in 1997 his daughter Chantal Raynaud-Lebreton, who had worked beside him for more than 10 years, took charge of the family’s wines; her sons Jean-Pascal, Olivier and Julien, who grew up on the property and learned the vines from their grandfather, carry them on. The 2 wines belong to the same family company, SCEV Château La Croix de Gay, and are run from the hamlet of Pignon, the medieval village of Pomerol.

Where La Croix de Gay keeps 5% Cabernet Franc in its blend, La Fleur de Gay is Merlot and nothing else, from 3 hectares. The wine is raised for 18 months in all, and an average year gives 8,000 to 10,000 bottles: a small wine in quantity, and a pure one in its grape.
