Château Siaurac

The estate

Siaurac is on record from the 1750s: the account book Étienne Rabion kept from 1753 to 1759 traces wine sold for the Siorac estate, the old form of the name. Pierre Brisson bought it in 1832; his son Benjamin married Elise Chaperon, and their son Joseph ran it after them. By 1893 Charles Cocks and Édouard Féret, whose Bordeaux et ses vins was the reference book of the Bordeaux trade, listed the Château de Siaurac under the Brissons at 125 tonneaux (the old Bordeaux measure of a crop, 900 liters, or 4 barrels), and at 200 by 1898: a domain of 60 hectares that had kept most of its old vines through phylloxera, across a thin stream, the Barbanne, from the first great growths of Pomerol. Its wine, they wrote, took its sap from Pomerol and its richness from Saint-Émilion. In 1908 the owner was J. Brisson, a former deputy of the Gironde.

A descendant, Madeleine, married Louis Guichard, son of Baron Edmond Guichard; Olivier Guichard inherited in 1978, and Paul Goldschmidt and Aline Guichard ran the estate from 2004. Artémis Domaines took a stake in 2014, and in September 2020 Les Terroirs de Suravenir, a subsidiary of the Crédit Mutuel Arkéa banking group, bought it, ending 188 years of the same family at Siaurac.

Vincent Millet manages the estate, with Elodie Kaminski as technical manager, Thomas Ferran as cellar master and Claude Gros as consulting oenologist. Château Siaurac is made from Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec, received on 2 lines with sorting tables, fermented in temperature-controlled concrete vats and aged 14 months in French oak vats and barrels, 25% new. Plaisir de Siaurac, the second wine, comes from young vines and lighter ground and ages 9 months in vat; S de Siaurac is a rosé. The estate holds Haute Valeur Environnementale (High Environmental Value, the French state’s environmental certification for farms), and its garden carries the Jardin Remarquable label.
