Château Penin

The estate

Penin has been in the same family since 1854. It lies at Génissac, on the left bank of the Dordogne, looking across at the slope of Saint-Émilion, on a pocket of gravel between a limestone plateau and the palus, the river’s marshland. Patrick Carteyron, of the 5th generation, carries it on with his sons, through the family company, SCEA Carteyron, on 45 hectares.

The farming is sustainable, with organic composts and care for the fauna and flora, and the estate is certified Haute Valeur Environnementale (High Environmental Value, the French state’s environmental certification for farms) at level 3. The range runs from 3 red Bordeaux Supérieurs, Tradition, Les Cailloux and Grande Sélection, to a Bordeaux Natur made without added sulfites, a white Bordeaux and a Clairet de Bordeaux.
