Château d’Yquem 1986 & 1993, Sauternes

These are not standard bottles. Both wines are in Jeroboam format, holding five liters each, a size that changes not just scale but evolution. Larger volumes slow oxidation, stretch maturity, and preserve freshness in a way that can feel almost uncanny with age.
The 1986 leans into its classical frame with remarkable calm. Layers of dried apricot, tea leaf, saffron, and subtle caramel unfold gradually, carried by acidity that feels steady rather than sharp. Time has not softened the wine so much as polished it.
The 1993 tells a quieter but no less compelling story. A difficult vintage shaped by strict selection, here it shows finesse and clarity more than power. Citrus peel, ginger, and light honey notes move with precision, the larger format giving the wine an extra degree of poise and definition.
