Château Pontac Monplaisir

The estate

In the 16th and 17th centuries Pontac Monplaisir belonged to the Pontac family, who then also owned Haut-Brion, and the comte de Pontac made it a place for hunting and fine dining. The Revolution broke it up among several owners. From 1955 Jean Maufras put the vineyard back together and renovated all the cellars so that the wine could be bottled at the château.

Les Domaines de Moncets bought it as their 5th property and their first on the left bank, a vineyard of 16 hectares at Villenave-d’Ornon on gravel over limestone, shaped by the former bed of the Eau Blanche. The group’s other estates are all on the right bank: Château Moncets and Château de Chambrun in Lalande-de-Pomerol, Château La Bastidette and Château La Voûte in Saint-Émilion.
