An 18th-century chartreuse at Léognan whose 9 hectares of vines the owners of Haut-Bailly bought in 2012 and, after 10 years of work, sent into Haut-Bailly II in 2022.

The estate
Château Le Pape was founded in the 18th century and made a Pessac-Léognan led by Merlot, from 9 hectares of red vines planted 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, at about 30,000 bottles a year. Robert and Elisabeth Wilmers, then the owners of Haut-Bailly, bought it in 2012, and the Haut-Bailly team took the vineyard in hand. In 2022, after 10 years of work to raise the level of the wine, the harvests of Le Pape joined those of Haut-Bailly II, the second wine of Haut-Bailly.
The house had a second life of its own. The chartreuse and its gardens, 800 meters from Haut-Bailly, were restored, guest rooms opened in September 2015, and the house now takes guests as La Chartreuse Haut-Bailly.
