Château Coucheroy

The estate

Coucheroy is Couchiroy, or Couche Roi, in Gascon: the king’s bed. The legend is that Henri IV stopped here to rest on a stormy evening, on his way back from the Battle of Coutras. The wine belongs to the André Lurton family, who present it with Château de Rochemorin, at Martillac, in red and white, both from gravel over a clay subsoil.

The red of 2022 is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot from vines 20 years old, pruned double Guyot and picked by machine from September 1 to October 4; it fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with a patented cap-breaking system and aged 12 months in barrel, racked each quarter. The white of 2021 is all Sauvignon Blanc from vines 11 years old, picked by machine from September 6 to 17, fermented partly in barrel and partly in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, and aged partly in barrel and partly in tank on its lees.
