Château Reynon

The estate

Reynon was a noble house of Jean de La Roque at the end of the 15th century. The Carle de Trajet family held the vineyard in the 18th, the Laspeyrères built the mansion around 1850, and Émile Pollet, a Paris wine merchant, bought it shortly before 1900. Jacques David acquired it in 1958, and in 1976 his daughter Florence David and her husband Denis Dubourdieu took it over; the wine took the name Château Reynon in 1979. It was here, in the early 1980s, that Denis Dubourdieu began trying skin maceration. He died in July 2016, and Florence and their sons Fabrice and Jean-Jacques own the estate today.

Reynon lies at Béguey, near Cadillac, with part of the vineyard on slopes facing southeast in the neighboring commune of Laroque: deep clays typical of the côtes, gravelly hilltops and the old limestone terrace of the Œuille, a small tributary of the Garonne. Its 28 hectares are 43% Merlot, 34.5% Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot and 0.5% Sémillon, 23 years old on average; the vines planted at low density in the late 1950s are being replanted at 5,500 a hectare, in a restructuring begun in 1988. The red, a Cadillac Côtes de Bordeaux, is fermented in stainless steel and concrete and aged 12 months in barrel; the second red is Clos de Reynon. The estate also makes a Sauvignon Blanc and a rosé, both Bordeaux, a sweet Cadillac in some years and, from 2018, Hommage Denis Dubourdieu, 100% Petit Verdot.
