Château Moulin Haut-Laroque

The estate

Moulin Haut-Laroque spreads across the slopes of Saillans and the plateaus of Fronsac: a little more than 16 hectares of clay and limestone with a markedly alkaline pH, planted 65% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Malbec. The vines are 50 years old on average, and the Malbec is the part to notice: more than 100 years old, a living piece of the Fronsac of another age.

Jean-Noël and Dominique Hervé have run the estate since 1977. Thomas Hervé joined them in 2012 and is to take over the family business. The wine ages in French oak barrels, 40% of them new, and the estate makes 60,000 bottles a year.
