Château Langoa Barton 1995, Saint Julien

Langoa Barton is one of the rare classified growths in Bordeaux that has remained continuously in the same family since the 19th century. The estate has been owned by the Barton family since 1821, when Hugh Barton purchased it, and it continues today under the stewardship of Anthony Barton’s daughter Mélanie Barton Sartorius. The château itself, built in the 18th century, stands just inland from Léoville Barton, the family’s other Saint Julien property.

The 1995 vintage marked a return to classic structure in Bordeaux after the softer early 1990s. On the Left Bank it produced wines with firm Cabernet Sauvignon backbone, fresh acidity, and the kind of balance that rewards patient aging.

Three decades on, bottles from estates like Langoa Barton illustrate why Saint Julien is often described as the most classically proportioned commune of the Médoc, combining Pauillac’s structure with Margaux’s refinement.
