Cos d’Estournel is instantly recognizable for its oriental-style pagodas, built by Louis-Gaspard d’Estournel in the 19th century after his trading ventures in India. Yet behind the exotic façade lies classic Saint-Estèphe terroir: gravel and clay producing Cabernet of strength and longevity.

The 2012 vintage was cooler and more restrained than the surrounding years, but Cos d’Estournel achieved a wine of structure and aromatic precision. It’s a demonstration of the château’s ability to craft depth even in less celebrated years.
