Vidoc is a mildew-resistant black grape bred by INRA and the Julius Kühn-Institut, a cross of Mtp 3082-1-42 and Regent confirmed by DNA markers, admitted in Bordeaux in 2023.

Vidoc is a black grape bred to resist downy and powdery mildew. VIVC records that INRA and the Julius Kühn-Institut crossed it in 2000, and DNA markers show that Vidoc is a cross of Mtp 3082-1-42, an INRA line bred with resistance from Vitis rotundifolia, and Regent, a German disease-resistant red grape. INRAE’s variety sheet gives it 2 resistance genes against each disease, Rpv1 and Rpv3 for downy mildew, Run1 and Ren3 for powdery mildew. It entered the French official catalog in January 2018, one of 4 varieties from INRA’s ResDur program, with Artaban, Floréal, and Voltis.

Its place in Bordeaux is written in the rules. On February 7, 2023 the INAO national committee adopted a revision of the AOC Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieur rules adding Vidoc to the varieties of interest for adaptation, and the arrêté of August 16, 2023, published in the Journal officiel on August 25, put it into force. By the 2023 Bordeaux texts, Vidoc may go into red Bordeaux, clairet, and rosé, and into red Bordeaux Supérieur. A grower needs a convention signed with INAO and the appellation’s growers’ body. In Bordeaux these grapes together may take up to 5% of the estate’s vines for the color and up to 10% of each lot for sale; in red Bordeaux Supérieur, up to 5% of the estate’s red vines, with each lot below 10%.

Of the 5 red grapes on Bordeaux’s trial list, it is the one bred for resistance to mildew, beside Arinarnoa, Castets, Marselan, and Touriga Nacional. A 2023 presentation by the Chambre d’agriculture de la Gironde counted about 37 hectares in the department. In 2025 Caroline Paire and colleagues, testing blends on consumers, found that Vidoc blended with Merlot was broadly judged equivalent to Merlot, though preferences varied between groups of tasters.
