Clos Floridène

The estate

Floridène is Florence and Denis in a single word. Denis and Florence Dubourdieu began it in 1982 with 2 hectares of old Sémillon and Muscadelle, and Château Montalivet, 13 hectares, joined it in 1991. Most of it lies on the limestone plateau of Pujols-sur-Ciron, near Barsac, with more parcels on the pebbly terraces of Illats; the whites grow on clay and limestone, the reds on clay-limestone and gravel. Its own cellar, begun in 2004, was finished in 2018, the year the Clos became an estate in its own right. Denis Dubourdieu died in July 2016, and his sons Fabrice and Jean-Jacques carry on the family’s 6 estates, among them Doisy-Daëne, Reynon and Haura.

The vineyard is 32% Sémillon, 28% Sauvignon, 31% Cabernet, 8% Merlot and 1% Muscadelle, with vines 35 years old on average. The whites ferment and age 9 months in barrels and wooden vats; the reds are made in stainless steel with gentle punching down and aged 12 months in barrel. Besides the white and red Clos Floridène there is a Rosé de Floridène, since 2004, and a second wine, Drapeaux de Floridène.
