How to read this

Capitals mark the stressed syllable. “ohn” is a nasal vowel: say it through the nose, with no n. The French r comes from the back of the throat. The recording is the reference.

For 37 years from 1989 Catherine Desbois-Mouchel led this Burgundy cooperage at Ladoix-Serrigny, founded in 1954, which TFF Group has owned outright since March 2026.

The house

Tonnellerie Rémond was founded at Ladoix-Serrigny, near Beaune, in 1954. Catherine Desbois-Mouchel took it over in 1989 and formed the present company. On October 21, 1996 she filed 4 marks in the United States, in her own name, for the house’s toasts, among them Medium Toast Long and Quick Heavy Toast. By 2022 the house sold about 10 million euros a year, 75% of it abroad.

TFF Group, the listed company of the François family of Saint-Romain, took 55% of Rémond from March 1, 2022, and Simon Grelier became managing director on July 29, 2022. Tonnellerie François Frères became its president on April 26, 2024, and on June 1, 2024 Rémond opened establishments at Saint-Émilion and at Saint-Hippolyte-le-Graveyron, in the Vaucluse. On March 31, 2026 TFF bought the remaining 45% and owned the house outright; the 2 establishments closed the same day, and Catherine Desbois-Mouchel handed over after 37 years.

In September 2022 AP John Coopers took on the house’s barrels as agent for Australia and New Zealand. They turn up in research as well: a study of red wine aging published in 2021 used new medium toast barrels of Allier oak from Rémond.
