Drinking older wines is not supposed to be as fancy as some people say. For me, it is an opportunity to appreciate the wine’s potential and to enjoy those flavors that do not exist in younger bottles.

It is also a game of luck, because you never know how the wine was stored all this time. I like to imagine where it went from the day it left the winery until the date I open it, and who had it before me. Had it been waiting for me all this time in a store? If someone bought it from a retailer, why was this very bottle never opened? Were they waiting for a special occasion that never happened? Did someone die and the heirs didn’t know what to do with it?

Anyway, sometimes it’s not only about what’s inside the bottle, but about which random events happening in a particular order led the wine to us. Cheers to that!
