Blanc de Lynch Bages 2023, Bordeaux Blanc

Blanc de Lynch Bages was first produced in 1990, an unusual move for a Fifth Growth estate built entirely on the reputation of its red Pauillac. Because the appellation does not permit white wine, it is released as Bordeaux Blanc, even though it remains closely tied to the Lynch Bages identity and to vineyards under the estate’s control.

The blend is led by Sauvignon Blanc, with Sémillon and Muscadelle adding texture and aromatic nuance. It reflects the same precision-driven philosophy as the grand vin, applied to a category where few Médoc estates have chosen to engage seriously.

In a recent vintage like 2023, the wine shows a tension between ripeness and restraint that is not always associated with Bordeaux Blanc. There is clarity and structure here, not overtly aromatic, placing it closer in spirit to the discipline of Pauillac than to the broader category it is labeled under.
