Capitals mark the stressed syllable. The French r comes from the back of the throat. The recording is the reference.

Liliorila is a white grape crossed at INRA Bordeaux in 1956, a cross of Baroque and Chardonnay confirmed by DNA markers, admitted in the Bordeaux rules in 2021.

Liliorila is a white grape bred in Bordeaux. VIVC records that Pierre Marcel Durquety crossed it in 1956 at the viticulture research station of INRA’s Bordeaux research center, the same breeder and year it gives for Arinarnoa, another of Bordeaux’s trial grapes. DNA markers show that Liliorila is a cross of Baroque, a white grape VIVC gives as French, and Chardonnay, as the breeder had recorded. VIVC notes that it is registered in the European catalog. In the Bordeaux rules it belongs to the varieties of interest for adaptation, admitted on trial to help an appellation face climate change.

After its crossing, its next Bordeaux record is a research vineyard. Louise Durand’s 2012 report on VitAdapt, the plot of 52 varieties planted near Bordeaux in 2009 to study grapes in a warming climate, lists Liliorila with its parents and finds its musts among the more acidic, with Riesling and Petite Arvine. Marc Plantevin’s 2025 thesis on the varietal diversity of the Bordeaux vineyard measured it again among 51 varieties grown on that plot and at La Tour Carnet from 2017 to 2023.

The rules followed. The arrêtés of March 22, 2021, published in the Journal officiel on March 30, admitted Liliorila in AOC Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieur for white wines; the Bordeaux texts also allow it above 4 grams per liter of residual sugar and in rosé. A grower needs a convention signed with INAO and the appellation’s growers’ body. In Bordeaux these grapes together may take up to 5% of the estate’s vines for the color and up to 10% of each lot for sale; in white Bordeaux Supérieur both limits are strict, below 5% and below 10%. The new white Médoc, homologated on July 31, 2025, names it too. A 2023 presentation by the Chambre d’agriculture de la Gironde counted about 1 hectare in the department.
