Château Moulin Pey-Labrie

The estate

Bénédicte and Grégoire Hubau, a computer scientist and a son of the great plain, came down from Picardy looking for a great terroir. After 3 years of searching they found this vineyard at Fronsac in 1988 and arrived 3 days before the harvest; Michel Rolland came by every evening to guide them through that first vintage. The vineyard is small: 6.75 hectares on clay and limestone slopes over molasses, planted 95% Merlot and 5% Malbec, with vines now 65 years old on average.

The Hubaus farm by biodynamic practice, till with a horse and have been certified organic by Ecocert since 2013. The grapes are picked by hand and made plot by plot, each soil on its own, with long vatting in small temperature-controlled tanks. They also farm Haut-Lariveau, 4.5 hectares, and Les Combes-Canon, 3.5 hectares, which together form a second property, and the range adds Cuvée Bénédicte, a Canon-Fronsac, and Haut-Lariveau, a Fronsac.
