Château Canon Pécresse

The estate

Canon Pécresse has belonged to the Pécresse family since 1950; in those years the family also owned Château Grand Corbin and Château Trotanoy. Its 4.1 hectares of vines lie in 1 block on a clay and limestone plateau above the Dordogne valley at Saint-Michel-de-Fronsac, ground that continues the geology of the Saint-Émilion plateau. Jean-Francis Pécresse worked on its development for 20 years. After a restructuring over 10 years the vineyard is planted 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, Stéphane Derenoncourt consulted from 2011, and the estate has been certified organic since the 2020 vintage.

In 2023 the Labrune family’s Château de La Dauphine took control of the estate in a partnership with the Pécresses. Jean-Francis Pécresse keeps an operational role alongside Jean-Claude Labrune, and Canon Pécresse keeps its own identity and label; Stéphanie Barousse manages the vineyard, as she does La Dauphine’s, with Julien Viaud of Rolland & Associés as consultant. The wine ages in French oak from the forests of Tronçais and Jupilles, runs to about 12,000 bottles a year, and is sold through the Place de Bordeaux.
