Capitals mark the stressed syllable. The French r comes from the back of the throat. The recording is the reference.

Gaëtan Martos was one of the coopers of this independent workshop at Martillac, in Pessac-Léognan, from 2001 to 2004; in October 2023 he and Cyril Morosi bought it.

The house

Didier Fesil led the 3 coopers who opened the workshop in 2001 at Martillac, among the vineyards of Pessac-Léognan south of Bordeaux, with a logging company as partner. The firm itself had been formed on October 16, 2000. Gaëtan Martos was one of its coopers from 2001 to 2004. From 2002 its barrels went abroad as well, to Spain, Austria and the United States. Cyril Morosi started in 2008, as a junior salesman still in his studies, to open the Spanish market, and became commercial director in 2016. Didier and Isabelle Fesil became the owners in 2017, with Isabelle Fesil as general director.

In October 2023 the house passed to 2 of its own people. Gaëtan Martos and Cyril Morosi bought it through their holding, MGC Chêne Investissements, and Martos is its president; Nicolas Cordier has run production since 2024. In October 2026, in a hard year for the coopers of the Gironde, Martos put it plainly: the crisis is worldwide, and particularly difficult in Bordeaux.

The house makes about 5,000 barrels a year for nearly 300 clients in about 10 countries. Its staves, of French high forest oak, are air dried for 24 to 36 months before they reach Martillac, and it toasts its barrels over a wood fire, slowly and deep into the stave.
