Capitals mark the stressed syllable. “ahn” and “ohn” are nasal vowels: say them through the nose, with no n. The French r comes from the back of the throat. The recording is the reference.

In 2005, 70 years after Clarence Dillon bought Château Haut-Brion, his great-grandson Prince Robert of Luxembourg gave the family a négoce (the merchant trade of Bordeaux), to make Clarendelle and deal in the fine wines of Bordeaux.

The house

Clarence Dillon bought Château Haut-Brion on May 13, 1935, and his family has held it ever since through Domaine Clarence Dillon. The family company bought Château La Mission Haut-Brion on November 2, 1983, and Château Quintus, in Saint-Émilion, in 2011.

In 2005, 70 years after that first purchase, his great-grandson Prince Robert of Luxembourg created Clarence Dillon Wines, the family’s négoce. He launched Clarendelle with it, a Bordeaux made with the enologists of Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion and sold by the house alone. Domaine Clarence Dillon had filed the name Clarendelle as a mark on November 24, 2002, more than 2 years before the house existed. Prince Robert, chairman of Domaine Clarence Dillon since 2008, is the house’s president, with Gérard Blanloeil as deputy managing director. From April 2005 it worked at Blanquefort, and since October 1, 2011 it has worked from the Pavillon Dillon at Talence, on the edge of Bordeaux.

The house opened its own warehouse, of about 10,000 square meters, in 2020. In 2023 it added cuvées of the Hospices de Beaune raised by the Drouhin family, and in 2024 it launched Klara, organic wines from the south of France. Clarendelle and Klara take their names from Clarence Dillon.
